Surge in Ransomware Attacks Targeting US Executives
Since late September 2025, US business executives across various industries have been targeted in a widespread ransomware campaign, according to a warning issued by Google. The attacks are attributed to hackers claiming affiliation with the infamous Cl0p ransomware group. In a pattern consistent with previous Cl0p operations, the attackers sent mass phishing emails containing threats, demands of up to $50 million in ransom, and alleged proof of data theft through screenshots. They reportedly gained unauthorized access via business management applications from Oracle. Although Google could not confirm the authenticity of the data thefts, the email addresses used have links to the Cl0p data leak site, suggesting a strong connection.
