Poland Prevents Cyberattack on Major City’s Water Supply

Poland recently announced it had successfully stopped a large-scale cyberattack targeting a major city’s water infrastructure, an attack that could have disrupted essential services for thousands of residents. The attack was intercepted before any operational damage was done. Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski revealed that Poland fends off hundreds of cyber threats daily, with a remarkable 99% success rate, thanks to heavy investment in cybersecurity. Over 3 billion zlotys (~$800 million) has been poured into upgrading defensive capabilities, infrastructure monitoring, and cyber threat intelligence. While officials have not disclosed who was behind the attempted attack, it highlights the increasing trend of nation-state and criminal groups targeting critical infrastructure as a means of political or financial leverage.
